I am replacing the upper seals on my lower unit. Is there anything special about removing old and installing new. I plan to use a screwdriver to KO the old ones. Do I lubricate new ones? Is using a piece of wood to tap it in OK?
Any suggestions? Any experiences you have. Let me hear them.
Thanks
jimpittman

Re: Replacing lower unit seals

You probably don't want to hear this but get a manual. I haven't done this in a long time but if I remember the last time I used a socket to tap in and seat the new seal. Put the open face of the socket down and use a socket as close as possible in diameter as the hole. This avoids contact with the rubber part of the seal as the socket contacts only the outer ring. Someone else may have a better way.

Might help if you indicated what engine you have.

you may try a clamp and use a washer the same diameter this will press the seal in evenly
