Hello
After getting much needed help about hard starting issues on this board (Thanks everyone)I have come to the conclusion that a carb replacement is in order. I am getting a rebuilt Rochester 4 bbl remote choke. Its going on an edelbrock manifold sitting on a 305 rebuilt Jasper engine. I am told that it should be preset from the shop and I should be able to bolt it up and start er up...
What am I really in for???
Thanks
Jim

That sounds about rite, make sure you start off with a clean fuel system, filters and freash gas.
if you have sediment in you fuel tank now is the time to clean it.
a few minor adjustment on your new carb you should be runnig fine.

JL - As long as the carb is made for your application it should just bolt on. What I normally do after rebuilding a carb or installing a new or someone elses rebuilt is put it on the engine, make sure eveything is good & tight. Without pumping the throttle, try to start the engine, turn it over for about 15-20 seconds (again without pumping the throttle). If the engine starts on its own that okay just shut it off, if it doesn't start that's still okay. Let the carb sit for about 1/2 hour with the gas in it. Double check everything for leaks at this time. This will give the gaskets and accelerator pump time to soak in gas.
After this 1/2 hour wait, go ahead and start the engine, working the throttle if you have to get it started. When it starts see how it idles, if too fast, back down the idle screw, if the engine won't get down to factory recommended idle speed, slow it down as much as possible, turn in or out the air mix screws until you notice an increase in engine speed, search for the highest idle speed you can find, back down your idle speed screw to see if you can obtain factory recommended idle speed. If not repeat the process. You may have to go over this several times to get it right.
When done please check for fuel leaks again.
Good luck.
