replacing my top mount control on "tower of power

Hello I have a 1973 hewes bonefisher with a 1984 115 inline 6
My center console is kind of small and i have a top mounted throttle control that is getting old it is the original from the motor and would like to replace with a side mount "which would save me some splace on the top of the console" anyway i would like to know what i can replace it with. i was looking at the ULTRAFLEX B/183 OR B/184 problem is not sure if my control cables will fit,I am not sure if i have a generation 1 or generation 2 any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

If it's a original Mercury box you will have to replace it with a mercontrol, if you favor another type of box you might take total cost for parts and the fact that your cables are getting old and could fail soon into consideration.

Thanks fro the Quick response laddies,when you say mercontrol do you me the older type control that actually say MERCONTROL on them or do you mean any mercury control i have been looking at mercury site and they ask if it generation 1 or 2 which leads me to believe that sometime back they changed cables or shifters,in other words if i were to buy a brand new top mount mercury shifter will it fit?
