replacing needle and seat on 9.8 hp

Anyone attempt to remove the impossible needle seat on the older Merc 9.8 carbs and retrofit them with another matching set? I've attempted to clean this sucker multiple times and each attempt results in the problem with the needle sticking causing no gas to get to the motor. I can pump that sucker super hard and tap the float cup and it still stays stuck in there. When I take it apart the needle is usually sucked in really good in the seat and the float is bone dry. I changed the needle already and that hasn't helped the problem.

Hi,
Side bowl or center bowl?
I'm guessing center by the problem.
If the spring is in the needle and you have
the float set right it should not stick in the seat.
Unless someone drilled it ot thinking it would go faster.
A Merc needle with a gray film on it should not stick
in the seat. If you are using an after market one
it is hard to tell if the needle point taper is correct.

I am referring to the middle needle with the rubber end. The needle does not have a spring associated with it and just rubs up against the float. I replaced it one year ago with a new one which appears to be in good shape. The problem is the rubber point keeps sticking to the small pinhole orphas which isn't allowing any gas to flow in to the float chamber.

turning it upside down (or proper orientation when installed) and using my finger to plunge it up and down it tends to stick as I tap it. This happens more frequent when the needle is wet than dry.

Hi,

Are you using Merc part or some other brand. I rarely ever saw that happen.
What is the yr or ser # of you motor? So I can see just which carb you have.
