I'm going to be putting the stern drive back together on my '68 Holiday V. The P.O. removed the gas tank and emptied it before storing the boat. I am thinking of just reinstalling the 12 gallon Mirax steel tank for this season and then re-decking and installing the keel mount 26 gallon I had purchased for my O/B Chieftain prior to finding the Holiday. In either case I haven't seen any love for rubber fuel line in any of the threads relating to fuel lines for an I/O.

Regardless of which tank I install does anyone have a link to a thread describing proper fuel lines to use for a tank install on an I/O boat? I can bend steel lines and I have (and know how to use) a double flaring tool. The current setup uses rubber lines but all with correct flared ends, not barbs and clamps.

Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... Ya run CG approved rubber lines to the fuel pump, then a hard line from the pump, to the carb....

Tricks,.....
For the tank Vent line, it should go Up from the hull fitting, loop around, then down to the tank....

The loop creates a self-drainin' water trap..

Thanks Bond-O for the quick answer. I'm attaching a drawing that shows what I'd like to do for the tank replacement.

Legend of colors is as follows:
Light Tan is the new deck.
Grey is the new tank
Red is the filler hose (USCG approved)
Brown is the vent hose
Yellow is tank to fuel pump line
Blue is the new engine cowl

I want to install the keel tank and run the fill and vent lines along the port side of the engine to an internally vented filler neck in the position of the original neck. Is there a specific safe distance from the engine that the hoses need to be? I planned to mount standoffs and bind the lines together as well as a belt guard. Am I over thinking it? Would it be sufficient the way it is drawn?

Yeah. For the people that always think they've been having condensation in their fuel tank, it's usually because of a "splash" of water making it into the tank via the vent! Or a leaking fuel-fill.......
