You can use some gasket remover to help soften-up the powerhead gasket. Then scrape with a gasket scraper, or razor-blade-type scraper. You do have to be careful when scraping, or you'll gouge the soft aluminum surface.

Here's a few products a Google search turned up; gasket remover and a scraper that uses hard plastic blades (can't hurt the alum. surface), and also can hold standard razor blades for tough jobs:

Gasket Removers : Permatex? Gasket Remover - Low VOC Formula

Gasket Removers : Permatex? SaferScraper

You should be able to find these products or something similar at most auto parts stores.
