Hello..

Bearings are shot in my PS pump, time for a replace. Have my pulley puller, but before I yank this sucker off..

Any help with how I get it back on?

(or any other tips on the job from start to finish..)

Thanks in advance..

hope your not trying to use just a generic 3 jaw type puller.

You need a power steering pump service kit to properly get that pulley on and off. They can be found at sears here.....

or your favorite tool store to shop at. They vary in price abit..... but if you buy a cheap one someplace (harbor freight) you'll certainly get a cheap tool.

Found this after some creative searching:

"Get a bolt about 3-4" long that has the same threads as the shaft on the PS pump.....
Get a stout flat washer with the right inner diameter to fit over the shaft but not over the pulley....
Get a nut for that bolt & thread it up enough that the bolt, nut, & then washer can be threaded into the shaft with the pully in place...
Thread the bolt until it seats, (not too tight).....
Hold the bolt end with a wrench & tighten the nut.....
It should draw the pully on........"

Anyone vote on that method or have a better idea?

Also.. regarding the bleeding, I found this post by Don S.:

"Fill up the PS pump, then, with the engine OFF, turn the wheel lock to lock 3 or 4 times. Check the oil and top off, and do it again. Then start the engine and do the same thing.
If you don't do it without the engine running first, you may get a shaking of the drive when you turn it."

When you say "turn the wheel lock to lock", what do you mean by this?

Same thing when someone says to turn the wheel to lock in your car. Turn it as far left as it will go and as far right as it will go.

Duh. Thanks.

Usually I use the wild and crazy term "Turn it all the way to the left" or "Turn it all the way to the right".. lol

I don't know about your method..... I use the tool kit and have never warped a pulley and damaged a shaft doing it with the proper tools.

When you say "turn the wheel lock to lock", what do you mean by this?

Turn the wheel all the way to the left until it stops, then turn it all the way to the right until it stops.... repeat that a few times.

Oh yeah.... i'm pretty sure you can just go to autozone and "rent" the tool for free :) Why mess around... just get the tool.

Turn the steering wheel as far left, and right, as it wants to go...!

Don't force it...just take it to it's two limits.
