Have water dripping from Shift Cable onto Valve Covers. Did search and found tons of info. Thank you all for that.
What I know from search.
Need to replace Shift Shaft Bushings (P/N ?)
Need to replace Lower Shift Cable

My question is can I replace this bushing w/o opening the gearcase?

I have opened the OEM manual and it is a little confusing to me.

Thanks in Advance for the Help

I had the same exact problem, but I just replace the bushings. The cable still worked good. I just had to remove the drive and there they were. Took about 10 minutes to change them out. Sorry that I dont have the part number but they come together in a kit. I would go OEM if possible.

Ayuh,...

That says your Lower shift Cable,+ Cable Bellows is Shot,....

What makes you think you need the Shift Shaft Bushing,....
It's Not related, At All...

If you're going Deep enough to swap out the Cable,...
I'd swap out All of the Rubber Parts with a Transom Reseal Kit....

Well I did a search on "Water dripping from shift cable"

And found at least 3 posts with the almost exact title. In all of them the #1 suggested cure (by Don) was to replace the lower shift cable.
In fact, in 1 post you are the one that recommended replacing the shift cable.

What I really need to know is if I can replace these bushings w/o opening the gearcase. I really dont want to open it if I dont have to.

Thanks Again everyone in Advance, for the Help.

It is easy to replace the shift shaft bushings, and no, you don't need to disassemble the gear case. Here's what they look like:

And here's where they go on the bellhousing:

Your going to have to take the drive off on either repair but I am like Bond-o the bushings have nothing to do with this as these are not sealed. If exhaust pressure is forcing water out cable I would more likely believe a broken shutter is blocking exhaust (after shaft) causing this.
