I am replacing the steering cable on a teleflex rack and pinion on a 1880 bay stealth with 115 yamaha 4 stroke.

I don't have enough room to slide the steering arm out of the tilt tube of the motor. The cable makes a slight bend where it enters the back of the boat. Does the steering arm detatch from the cable. I am stuck please help:confused:

Some boats you have to move the engine to get the cable out. Sometimes over a bit, sometimes off the boat.

To get the old one out just cut it, your gonna throw it away anyhow and do the motor end first on the new cable.
Just a thought.

if you haven't gotten the new cable, go with a new nofeedback rotary helm system. just a little more $, easier to install, great upgrade to the boat.

OKAY we got it out and ordered a new replacement cable

The old man insisted on sticking with the rack and pinion  he was paying for it so I couldn't really argue:redface:....$95.00 on-line so thats that!:)

Next question (posted thread) is the cable buddy lube system worth the money?

I would say if you fish salt water or store your boat outside it can't hurt.
I fish freshwater and have never had a problen in 5-6 years but I keep a little grease on the motor end and store my boat in the garage.
Rack and pinion systems aren't bad there are just better systems now, it will work fine.
