I ordered part # 43713 And I am having a hard time getting it to stay in the groove, is it okay to use some kind of glue or something top keep it in the groove? What could I use that I may be able to find at a local store? I notice there doesn't appear to be any glue from before in there, although there is some corrosion?

Clean the housing of any loose corrosion, paint the surface, 3M weatherstrip adhesive in groove, install foam gasket, let dry.
Install transom housing

Hve you checked the transom to make sure it isn't rotting? Those seals rarely go bad on a perfectly good transom. I would check the transom before you proceed. If the transom swelled from water damage, you won't be able to seat it right.

I like a rubber cement based glue for that task. CopperCoat is what I used last time. Same as weatherstrip adhesive or bellows cement, basically. I used blocks of wood to hold the foam seal into the groove as it hardened.

Not sure I'd want that gooey permatex in there

I use a spray gasket adhesive on such things...just did mine as well. Used some Red-N-Tacky to hold the O-ring and shift dog together.

I'd use a contact type adhesive as others suggested, the RTV is going to be slippery, not the right goop for the job. The 3M weatherstrip adhesive is pretty common, usually comes in a huge tube, in a 8x2x2 red box last time I bought it..

I believe, if Bondo's fridge was out'a mayo.... :D
