Replacing transom

I have an 86 aluminum Starcraft, 18' bowrider. I have just been informed that I need a new transom. I plan on doing it myself. Neighbor has an engine hoist. Has anyone done this with an I/O before? Are there any new materials to use instead of 3/4" PT sheets? Any help would be appreciated.

if you do a search on craigslist minneapolis under boats there is a company that makes the hard resin transoms for boat manufactures that is selling overstock for $50. they were too heavy duty for the small boat i am rebuilding but they may be right for your boat.
