And switching from I/o to outboard. I have a pod. Question is got this from lumber company about material for transom. They have marine plywood. But this is a cheaper possible alternative. Any one had experience using the below

””Yes there is but its not rated for exterior and its called fir g1s , ¾ sells for 69.99 and half sells for 55.99 each

But again its not rated for exterior but it does have exterior glue in it “””.

Do you think this would do the job?

I have no idea about whether it will work or not. But in my opinion, this transom is a ONE-TIME replacement effort for that boat. So why not use what most others use and just eat the cost difference. It is a one time deal and the money for the proper material would be seriously insufficient over the years of using that boat. JMHO

Perhaps its not pressure treated 'rated for exterior' ply....

Exterior glue? Or waterproof/boil proof exterior rated glue?

Google is your friend:
Sanded fir or good 1 side plywood is composed of 100% Douglas fir veneers bonded together with waterproof phenolic adhesive making it suitable for use in both interior and exterior applications where a sanded face is required for further finishing and a finer appearance

And Fir G1S is simply fir plywood thats sanded, and thus Good 1 Side. Sort of the fir equivalent of ACX plywood. And should be exterior rated, lumberyard be darned...

Sounds to me like the lumberyard wants to sell you the more expensive plywood, or they're incompetent about the products they carry......

Yes, the G1S fir plywood can be used..... Of course, like many aspects of a boat rehab, gm280 is correct, hopefully its a 1 time rebuild of this boat, some more expensive purchases are worth it.

FYI: many hundreds (thousands?) of rebuilds posted here dont have access to marine plywood and use a variety of plys, including the ACX I mentioned and probably some Fir G1S.....

Ok I peeled back some of the floor to get at stringers which need to be beefed up so I can attach brackets tying the transom to the stringers. Planning on 3 sheets of 3/4 " and one sheet of 1/2 " plus a piece of 1/4 " aluminum plate inside the transom. Want it strong. Question is filling the hollow stringers with a solid piece about 24" long solidly fiberglassed in between the two stringers and wondering if the 24" plug inside the present stringers would be long enough and strong enough to support the structure brackets and transom with a 125hp Merc hanging off a engine pod

Ok figured out posting the pics without to much wood burning, any suggestions out there for beefing up the transom. and filling in the stringer gap and installing knee brackets?
