88' 85 hp Force. Seperate power trim/tilt ram w/single shock...2 wire motor.

Seloc recommends replacing the oil for the trim/tilt unit since they advise against mixing oil from one manufacture with that of another. They even explain the steps on how to check and/or add oil when neccessary as well as how to bleed the system of air.
However, Seloc does not list the procedure for draining the oil out of the system should it be desired or neccessary to do so. Is there a specific procedure for bleeding the pump and trim and tilt cylinders and lines of oil?

Re: replacing trim oil

I wouldn't worry about brands of trim fluid.
Just top off with similar fluid.
Some use 30 weight motor oil, others used hydraulic fluid ( transmission fluid).

Re: replacing trim oil

Thank you for replying Roscoe,

Though, there isn't any signs of water contamination in the oil, the oil is probably the original oil that came from the factory when the motor was new. This being said, is why I was considering it might be time to replace it. Or, do you think, if all looks good, don't worry about?

No need to replace..just top off if needed. To check, stick a Q-Tip in it, Red, use trans oil, brownish, use 30wt Non-Detergert oil...(Walmart..buck a quart...green bottle..has NO SAE ratings..)

Re: replacing trim oil

Fluids used in closed hydraulic applications don't "go bad", as a rule, unless there's overheating or contamination involved. Very little of either in trim systems ... :)
