Replacing Trolling Motor WIre

Left the trolling motor unattended for too long and the wire from the motor to the battery clamps got chewed up (dang dogs).

It's a Motor Guide 30lbs thrust. I'm trying to find out what gauge wire to go with and the best way to splice in the old wire to the new, other than with electrical tape, so I won't have to worry about corrosion or shorting.

Any help is appreciated. Thx

Be best to take a peice to a electrical dealer & get the same size - If you must splice it get the proper sized but connectors - the twisting togeather & tapeing is not the best solution :(
