More and more it becomes harder to find replacement plastic or potmetal emblems for some of these older boats. Has anyone had any luck or experience making resin molds of older emblems. Im going to attemps to remanufacture the 70's era Smoker Craft badge. If anyone has some pointers, it would be appreciated.

Are you going to use an old emblem as a copy pattern or make it solely on your own. You could use an old emblem to make a mold from and then use resins to pour a emblem. Then paints and sealers could finish that off. You could even make a sand cast mold and pour aluminum into that type mold to make one. There are a lot of ways to replicate such things. It just depends on how far you are wanting to go with it. JMHO

Well if I could find a JPG image that i could convert to DXF, I could cut something up on the waterjet. Part of me says keep it origional and make a new plastic emblem while the other part says make my own.

Aluminum cut from the waterjet would last a lot longer.

No Title

These old plastic ones are in rough shape. Not sure a replica would turn out to good.

You could clean them up and use them for mold impressions for resin filled replacements.

If you have access to some 3D printer, you could even scan them and 3D print some out. So many ways to do that.

I would try the mold impressions with aluminum moldings and see how they come out. It would not effect them in any form or way to try such things. Make molten aluminum castings and then polish them out. Aluminum molded castings would polish out very nicely.

Just get some aluminum cans and melt them down and pour some.. That sounds like something I certainly would try myself.

But that is just me. JMHO
