Hi andy!
You had asked about stipping the paint off your boat in another post . I had several layers of old brushed on paint that just looks dull and poorly applied . I've been using stryp-eze gel (got it at H.D.) . It eats through the paint quickly and just scrapes away . My gelcoat needs work so I'm actualy being a little rough in getting the paint off. There are many spots that need filling and sanding .
First thing I'd recomend to you is to look over your boat if your boat needs only to buffed to a shine then look up one of the threads like Mark42 wrote .
If you have solid uncracked gelcoat then I'd recomend rubbing the stripper
on with a rag or using a plastic bondo spreader to work through the layers . In a few spots were I used the rag I actualy found the gel had some luster left. I think the p.o. didn't like the old Carribian blue !
