repositioning fuel inlet on pump

got new quicksilver fuel pump for my merc 3.0L the fuel inlet port is clocked 180 deg opposit of my old one, parts guy said i can split pump and turn it where it needs to be. is this ok or should I cut fuel hose and make do?

would not be the first one I ever clocked, however not all can be, seems maybe your parts guy ordered the wrong pump.
if its only the inlet port and all I was cutting was a rubber hose thats how I would go, dont cut and splice the metal line to the carb.
