I need to repower my 24' Proline. Has a 225 hp Mariner on it now. Must go 2 stroke because of weight limitations. Looking at a 225hp Mercury Optimax of a 225HP Evinrude E-Tec. Any thoughts?

Re: Repower 225 Hp, Optimax Vs Etec

I have been following both engines ever since the E-Tec came out so I would have knowledge of engines when I need to repower my 23WA. I know that my 1989 Mec will not last forever.
At this point I would go with the E-Tec w/o a doubt. There is just too many things about the Opti-Pops that I don't care for. I guess they have resolved a lot of their problems, but the features of the E-Tec far outshine the Optis.
Just my personal opinion for what it is worth. Either way, it is a lot of bucks.

I understand how the e-tec works, but I don't know much about the opti's.

Can anyone give me a brief overview of how Optimax works, or point me to a resource ?
