I have a yamaha 115 ETXJ (86) 2S that I'm thinking of replacing with a current model Yamaha 115 2S.
I have an analog tach, trim, water pressure,
fuel and speedo. I'd like to keep the current guage package to save cost. I also have a Yamaha
binnicle mount control and seperate key switch and choke switch. I would also like to use the same props. I have both aluminum and stainless.
Can I count on it being a "plug and play" re-rig?

Re: Repower Same Make and Model but Newer

Hi,
Why not send the old guages, controlbox and a prop with the old outboard? It would for sure make it easier to sell, if you sell it private. If Your dealer is taking it in as a deal when You buy a new outboard of that dealer maybe it is less critical.

Personally I would get new orginal guages and controlbox as a package with the new ouboard itself. Just to be sure all will work and no incompatibilites (that I doubt exists) and to get warranty also covering this whole package.

I do not know if prop is included or not when You buy a new outboard in Your country but here it is usually (but I guess you can buy without prop). But same here, if You plan to sell the old outboard private it might be easier to sell with a prop.

Maybe you will save some money not buying new guages, controlbox and prop but it depends how much your old outboard will be worth without guages, controlbox and prop.

Just my opinion.

The tach will need and adapter which I do believe they make. The newer gauge has a square conector vs. your somewhat round one, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Thanks, Guys. I think I'll just get this one fixed. Sounds like I'll be into it for about $8500 to repower. Maybe someday!!!

robards. your correct. in 95 the connectors were changed from round to squre on the trim/alarm harness. there are some other minor changes made from the 04 to 05 models as well. to use the older(o4 and earlier) tach with the o5 motors will require yet another adapter.
