Repower vs Repair

First and foremost you guys are awesome!!<br />Evinrude 175 HP 1993 Spitfire 60Degree.<br />Problems:<br />2 Cylinders low compression <br />1 Cylinder has leak and salt water fouls plus every 5 hours<br />RPM used to be 5500 now only 4800WOT<br /><br />Should I do a repower with a New Etec 200 for about 18K<br />Repower standard 200 for 12K<br />Repower with a rebuilt 200 for 5K<br />Repair for what ever this might cost?<br /><br />I am torn as to what to do? I love working on this motor but do not want to get over my head with these repairs then be stuck with a motor I tore apart and cant put back together?<br /><br />What causes loss of compression?<br /><br />As always Thanks

If your water leak is in #1 cylinder its what the factory called the "glue seam leak" and it can be repaired. There are several shops across the country that have figured out how to do it successfully.<br /><br />Several things could have caused the scoring. 5500 rpm at wot certianly isnt helping. Especially if youre using NGK plugs.

Thats a very fine motor. I also have a 1993 150 (same thing basically) and would not hesitate to rebuild it. However, todays E-tec's are fantastic motors.<br /><br />Good choice on plugs!

I have the "glue seam leak" in 91 and see your coment about this problem and you say that several shop figure this out succesfully .Do you have any of this shop`s name to contact them? I raelly thanks if you can help me in this.

mar-fab are good with the mod to the glue seam.
