I have a '62 Larson Tri-Hull (16.5ft) with a Merc 80hp Outboard on it. I will be doing some work on it. New plug wires (costs $120), rewiring the electric system, rebuilding the carbs, and so on. The problem is that I still want to use the boat as it is my only one. I removed the 80 and put a rebuilt Johnson 30 on it. My question is, Is the 30 horse large enough to push the boat? About how fast will it go?

i dont think the 30 is going to get your tri hull to plane look for a top speed around 10 mph.

Hi Oldmerc80

It depends of the weight.

I have a 16 Uttern with 35 Hp Evinrude here in Denmark. It only weighs 480 lbs with motor on. It gives a topspeed around 28 miles. Be sure to have the right propeller, i think you need. 10x13 or 10x11.

Good luck
