I am looking at repowering my Lund WC 16. Currently, I have a 15hp 2 stroke Suzuki. It pushes it alright but it seems like the bare minimum power you'd want on that size boat. I often use it in lakes and sometimes the Sound. I don't feel it has enough power for rivers.

The boat is rated at a max hp of 25 and that's what I would like to get. My questions are:
1. 2 or 4 stroke and why? I have a trolling motor already and use the gasser to get to and from fishing holes.
2. If a 4 stroke, will it be too heavy for my transom?
3. Which brands would you reccommend and stay away from and why?

I know this is a broad topic but I'm just now starting to look. Thanks.

This may not be too helpful but from everything I'm reading.....no one makes a bad small outboard right now. You pretty much can't go wrong.

If you have any weight data on same-brand 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke I know I'd be interested in seeing it.

Two stroke,...less weight than a four stroke in most cases.
Brandwise,...if you can afford to do it,go Evinrude E-TEC, or if you are
like me and on a tighter budget,...try and find a good used motor.
Go with the maximum HP the boat will allow. I say that because I
own a Sea Nymph 14R rated for 25 hp,but only has a 9.5 hp motor on it.
The motor just BARELY gets my boat on plane,...it is seriously underpowered
IMHO(in my humble opinion). I am currently saving money to repower my
boat with at least a 15 hp,...but like your boat, mine really should have the max. hp the boat will allow.
If I had to choose a brand to recommend,...new or used,...go with Evinrude
or Johnson. I would stay away from Mercury,...not as reliable.
