I've been pondering the idea of repowering the Glastron. `79 ssv177 w/ 140 omc. I'd like to get rid of the current engine and drive and replace it with a merc alpha gen II. I'm not sure which engine I would like to use, my hull is in really nice shape with no rot or anything like that, I'd like to use a sbc, and save on weight by using alum heads, intake, and some sort of custom made exhaust. I know those cast iron manifolds, risers, and y pipe weigh a ton by themselves. I think that would get it down to a reasonable weight, probably less than the stock I6 that you could have got. So I guess my question is will the boat be able to handle the extra power? I guess my second choice would be a 4.3 V6 w/ a 4 barrle should be around 200HP.
