Repowering? What size engine?

My 98' Suzuki 225 took it's final breath this weekend. I like my 99' Aquasport 215DC so I am going to buy a new motor for it. Another 225 is too expensive plus I really want a four stroke. I would like to be able to cruise @22-25kts. The boats weights 3,000lbs.

Any idea what motor I should buy? 150hp?

I talked to my local Honda dealer and they are offering low interest rates. He quoted me $14,900 for a 150hp installed with the analog gauges.

Re: Repowering? What size engine?

Just some thoughts, assuming the boat is rated at 225 and not higher, 150 is only 65% of the boats rating. That's also a 30% reduction in power from what you had. Most people use the 75-80% (minimum) rule when repowering. You may get the speed you want ( with correct propping) but may have issues with coming up on plane and/or having to run wide open to stay there. You may be good but you might be making a $15K mistake. Last I checked, dealers won't take back a outboard without a considerable restocking fee.
