Even with a free 470, I wouldn't make that swap.

Re: repowering

thanks for the info,
I just seen they also have i/4s with 165 hp. I just bought a 78 thompson with a i/6 that needs restored and we were told. That when last owner went to get it ready to fish last spring April/May they found water in oil. We dont know wheather to rebuild or buy one already done. I dont have any Idea on what cost will be. Can you guys give insight on what to look for and a general cost to rebuild. Are all water in oil problems a cracked block. Can the cracked blocks be repaired successfully ? thanks for your time

Ayuh,... Not always, but usually....'n No, no way...

The I6 is a great little motor, 'n they're still around, unlike the I4 470s...
Here's 1 right here...

Re: repowering

Before you go out and buy a new engine, just the fact that you have water in the oil doesn't mean the engine is shot necessarily - nor even the cause of the water. Pull the elbow and manifold off and see what you find there before blaming the engine. Do some basic tests before assuming it is the engine.
