Once a bearing is galled, and yours are, they're done.<br /><br />It may work for a while and then it will sieze when you least expect it. Maybe at wide open throttle. If that happens, it may tear up a lot more than the bearings themselves.<br /><br />If you do not trust the mechanic to not swindle you, I would look elsewhere. At least, he will show you the old parts, if you request them. Ask for a guatrentee.<br /><br />Don't try to go the cheap route. Fix this right.

Have you tried Clark Boat in East Alton? I have dealt with them for many years with no problems.

I live about 40 minutes from Alton and do most of my boating at Litchfield. Clark is not cheap, but they are reliable, reputable, and will get the job done right. They have been in business a looooong time.
