Is it possible to re-sew upholstery seams or do you have to completely re-upholster, and if it is possible what kind of costs are we talking?

If it is fabric it can be resewn but the cost of doing it right can be similar to labor cost of new.If it is vinyl it is best to be done by hand so you can get the needle in the same holes. No one will want to do that for you so it all depends on how much you need to sew. Charlie

Re: Resewing Upholstery seams

What items are your sewing and what type of sewing machine? Most cushion covers have the seams inside. You turn them inside out and restitch with a sewing machine right over the old stitches.

Bimini tops and those type Sunbrella covers...just run them though a heavy duty sewing machine with the biggest or longest stitch your machine can handle. Long stitches keep the fabric from puckering. Do it over the old stitching.

Use bonded nylon or bonded polyester thread for interiors and only bonded polyester for exteriors.

The smallest thread should be V46 but most home machines can handle V69 and heavy duty home machines up to V92 size. Needle sizes from approx 16 to 20.

Bill
