Re: Resin Question Help

With polyester there is no "for sure" amount..

There are way too many variables... The number one variable is the temperature... On a hot day, less hardner is needed, cold day you may need more..

You can overheat the fiberglas by adding too much hardner which will cause the fiberglass to be britle when it hardens..

The general amount of hardner used for a gallon is one ounce (slightly less than 30 cc's) of hardner per gallon of resin... For a quart, 7 cc's should get you in the ballpark.. Use that as a base line and adjust the amount of hardner as needed to allow a long enough pot life for the resin...

At least 10-15 minutes.. Thats roughly how long you want the resin to go before it kicks off into a worthless gob of jello.... ;)

Bassrunner,
When mixing up your batches note the temperature, humidity and time it took to kick. Humidity is a MAJOR factor so don't ingore it. This will set you up with a record of working times and kick ratios. It will help keep chinese fire drills to a minimum.

Also, don't worry about too much hardener for anything except working time and fires. Damaging resing from too much harder would be like kicking resin off in 30 seconds or less and starting fires if left in the container. Polyester is very forgiving with catalyst ratios.
