Can I use polyester resin for my fiberglass deck and striger covering? Or do I need to use epoxy resin? I have the polyester resin readily available, we order it by the 55 gallon drum at work. If it will be ok I'd rather use it unless it will cause problems

Re: resin question

I used poly on the whole job. No problem, just make sure you grind good and get the bonding areas clean and work clean while using it.

Re: resin question

polyester resin is a standard in boat building.

as drew said.....make sure you grind the old stuff first. it is uasually waxed.....that means the top layer of wax must come off the older resin first...that way the new resin will bond correctly

Re: resin question

the resin we have is definitely wax free. as for quality I'm sure its some good stuff, we use it all the time to build sub woofer enclosures in cars and such and i'm used to working with it so I don't think it will be an issue.
