Re: Resistor for Volvo 4 cyl alternator
If you have a Valeo/Paris Rhone Alternator, and you don't use a resistor on the D+ or ignition terminial, the engine will still run when the key is turned off, There is a resistor on the D+ terminal or ignition terminal, it produces output voltage just like the battery output terminal. It is attached to a diode trio, which is a miniature rectifier assembly. Since the D+ or ignition terminial on the alternator is connected to the same circuit as the igition coil, voltage is supplied to the ignition coil when the alternator is charging and the key switch has no effect on it.
To elimate this problem a 10 - 50 Ohm resistor is needed to drop the output voltage so the igition coil will not fuction. Installing a indicator lamp in this circuit will also work.
Delco Marine alternators have a resistor built into the plug connector, and Valeo/Paris/Rhone use a a resister, or resistor wire on D+ or 61 terminial
