responce on my 50hp evenrude....need advice!!

i have a 1970-79?? 50 hp evenrude....finally got it to run normally..top end would'nt work...found out it was the fuel pump...but my problem now is throdle responce...works fine if i ease up on the trodle...but if i push it up fast it chokes...need some sugestions...please null

Howdy, Ripper. When you say it chokes do you mean it acts as though you were choking it (smokes and sputters) or do you mean it seems to run out of fuel (loses power)? I am suspicious of you carb float level settings.<br /><br />This "choking" may be one cylinder going dead temporarily until the fuel pump can catch up.<br /><br />Clean the carbs and reset the floats.<br /><br />Good luck and let us know how you do.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB

i mean the choke is off....the carbs have been rebuilt....fuel pump is rebuilt....i meant that if i push the throdle up fast ...it takes it's time to rev up..has a delay....if i push the throdle up slow..it seems to work better...but the motor runs fine..on topend and bottom end...runs just alittle ruff in idle...was wondering if it was the timimg...and if soo...how do i go about in timing it???thanks for your help so far

sounds like the idle mixture is set too lean. this results in good idle quality but poor acceleration. refer to the manual for proper procedure or try backing out each idle mixture screw a quarter turn at a time to see if it improves performance. if it does, adjust according to manual. Too many people adjust the idle mixture for best idle quality (this causes lean condition when accellerating)

And if that doesn't fix it (mixture adjustment), remove carb,and clean the jet in the side og the pickup tube. While in there, check the float level.<br />It definately sounds like you still have a restriction.
