Hi all,

I have an old 1988 Mariner 40hp.I wish to strip her down and rebuild. What is bothering me is what type of clear laquer can I spray over the fresh paint? Note that I don`t have a paint spraygun.
Anyone with any idea?

Cheers

Believe it or not, and I might get some disagreements on this, but you can get a really nice looking paint job out of a can. I've done it before, you just really have to take your time, make sure you have a good smooth painting surface and use many, many coats--starting with light coats and progressively getting heavier. Use a quality spray, Krylon works ok- kind of in the middle quality wise. They have a clear gloss I have used and it works well and doesn't yellow out. I painted this motor with Krylon spray and my neighbor thought I used my gun.

Thanks. Yours will come out nice too. Its easy for any one to do. Keep some reducer or thinner handy in case you get a run. Just wipe the run and respray. It will say ten minutes to dry on most spray, but don't handle or touch it for at least three hours. Good luck.

There's some pretty cool catalyzed clear coat in a spray can, called SprayMax, it's a urethane-type which, once activated, has a finite working life. Just be sure you're ready to do all the clear-coating you need to.

For under $20, it looks like a great way to get near-professional look and a durable finish.

I saw it on the PowerBlock Tv show a while back, also looks like it'd be great for painting motorcycle gas tanks since it's fuel-resistant.

Here's a few sites I Googled:

One word of caution, this stuff is the Real Deal and you need, at minimum, a charcoal respirator to use it. Breathing the fumes is an absolute No No.
