I have a Holly carb Merc 5.7 that the previous owner put in.
1- Before I start t he engine, I the throttle 2 pumps and the engine starts right up. It starts but a a very low idle to the point I have to set the throttle to 900-1000 rpm in neutral to keep it running untill its warm. Is this normal for a carbed 5.7?
2- After running the engine and putting around in the ICW or offshore sometimes it will stall when going from reverse to forward.. (Note to self....adjust cables). My real problem comes when it time to restart the engine. Sometimes it restarts, some times it takes 30+ mins to restart. Today I decided to CLOSE the CHOKE (held by electrical tape so I could reinstall the flame arrestor. Engine started right up within what seemed to me 1 stroke or immediately after touching the starter. After starting and running for about 2 mins, I shut the engine off and removed the electrical tape so the CHOKE can do it's thing. How do I fix the hard restarting after warm? Does the choke have something to do with it?
Thanks!!!
