restoration and winterizing

I am restoring my hydrasport bass boat and replacing the transom...I want to work on it this winter I have never owned a boat and need to know what to do to winterize it....also if anyone knows what WOT is for a 1984 150 evinrude..I have been told 4800 all the way up to 6000 which is too high.

A outboard engine will winterize itself. When its left verticle for a few minutes, all the water drains out of it. The new generation 2 stroke oils don't turn the fuel into 'goo' like the old ones did after a few months, but it never hurts to put a stabilizer in your gas and run it on the hose for several minutes. <br /><br /> I've left engines 'just as they were when I came from the lake' for as long as 3 years. Put fresh gas in the tank, and they fired right up. But, negligence is hard to recomend.

Well, it's so simple, but theres a *little* more you can do to winterize an outboard than what he suggested. Check out the FAQ on winterizing and make up your own mind. The full blown deal only takes less than an hour, once you get it figured out.<br /> IBoats Winterizing FAQ
