Re: restoration ?

Thats kinda a no win situation for you trying to bid a job that you don't know what your getting into, or what changes the owner may want to make along the way. If you want to help this guy out, I would decide on what you feel you should make hourly and keep track of your time. If you find yourself doing other things at the same time, adjust your hour total down to compensate to be fair. I don't think it is possible to give a job estimate on a project like that.

Re: restoration ?

I am about to start a restore on a 25 foot Savanaah Crest with a 3.0 LX mercruiser in it. I need a service manual for that engine. Does anyone have any suggestions. All this is from the year 1994

Re: restoration ?

Go to the Mercruiser I/O section of this forum. Under the "Adults Only" sticky there are links to service manuals and such.

Re: restoration ?

do you say that from experience? =] .

worked on plenty of older rvs that were projects.i seemed to get a figure in my head and then always come out short when the unexpected came into play...lol weather the owner wanted to make changes or the unforseen happens so i started adding in a aggrivation fee of 25% over what i thought it was going to take in labor and it helped quite a bit took the sting out of alot of jobs.but i always bid by the job not the hour.so that way you and the customer know where your at from the start.i guess this come from being a flatrate tech for so many years.

I would charge time and materials. Seeing as the customer is supplying most if not all materials it would just be time spent x per hour rate. 100 hours x $25.00 = $2500.00 labor. Only really fair way as long as your honest with your time and work steady.
