I have (what I believe to be) a 1956 Johnson 10HP Seahorse. The serial number is 1749510, Model QD-19. The cowling is white with red "flames".
The motor still fires each season after 2 or 3 pulls and runs like brand new.
What I am looking for is new decals, a front emblem and I also wish to repaint the cowling. I would also like to find a new/used pull cord handle.
This is totally new for me, but I want to do this for my father. He bought the boat/engine in 72 or 73 and I have recently inherited it. There are a lot of memories in that boat and I know he would love to see it all restored.
I could also use some help on getting paint and decals for a 1970 14' Crestliner.
Thank you much, any help would be greatly appreciated.
rf6811

Re: restoration

Also, consider joining the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Your motor is considered a classic by most collectors (1951 to 30 years ago). You might have to be creative in some restoration aspects, as not everything is being reproduced - particularly the front plastic emblem. Check eBay for hoods/cowlings etc. and you might luck onto a good one. Also, scour your local marinas - slip the mech a sixer of his favorite brew/soda and see if he'll let you scrounge around the boneyard...
- Scott
