I purchased this boat for 250 and interior was shot i started rebuilding and upolstering seats and floor at center storage was bad around hole so I pulled the whole floor. The foam on port was dry but foam on starboard is soaking wet from what i've read pull it. I'm going to core sample the transom. One of my questions is are these stringers on this boat fiber glass completely or covered wood. How can i find out how thick the transom is to do the core sample with out putting a extra hole in the boat? meaning all the way threw it. i'm guessing just mesure the plug hole? I was thinking of gel coating but know absolutly nothing about this stuff i do auto mechanics and auto body but gel coating dont even know where to get it and how to do it. my uncles bayliner has gel coat floors i love the clean up after a long day of slamming fish. plus was thinking of gel coating the outer shell heavy oxidize buffed half of it with medium compound and still see a deep haze in it its like spotty.

Welcome to iboats mark..

loads of questions ..hehe. :)

okies..first you have FG over wood stringers.

thickness..just go a little at a time with the holesaw..pop your wood out as you go.

Use some heavy compound on your gel ... you might have to wetsand some..

Use 1.5 oz mat and some 1708 on the floor.

Search iboats for gelocoat :) thats a whole other post heh.

YD.

Re: restoring 84 rinker v190 runabout

Thanks first for getting back with me. I had to start digging in. the stringers are just loaded with foam and its wet. no wood. what should i do? there is just a 4" x1/2" thick ply wood that is covered w/fiberglass all the way up the stringers there are a few holes on the top of the stringers i stuck a screw driver threw the foam it came out wet. do cut the top off remove and refill foam or leave alone. Havent even checked transom yet want a tube of that5200 by 3m first to seal hole as i go. hopefully! when i go to check transom theres only a few spots that i can get ffrom the inside so should i probe from the outside and is there particuler areas i should check like around drain hole or something like that i did finally stumble across the fiber glass and gel section very useful I've been reading these for 2 weeks on these issues and just found some good learning material on fibrergassing I'm not a very good searcher:eek:
