Maybe I'm nuts, but am I the only one that still likes the old portable marine metal 6 gal. fuel tanks? I've scavenged 3 of them. One I've stripped and refinished and would like to know what to do about factory decals. They're all old Evinrude tanks. Eventually I'd like to refinish the other 2. Does anyone have any info. they'd like to share. I'd also rather not hear "it'd be cheaper to buy the new plastic ones". Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing the best bet on decals is to have a local sign shop make new ones for you,......

You chances of finding original decals are slim and none, Evil. I found these re-pops. There are other peeps that do re-pops as well. I Googled "Evinrude Fuel tank decals". That was just the first one in the results. Good luck finding what you need.

It would be, but where's the fun in that??

I have restored a few, but I have been lucky enough to scrounge new condition originals for my boats.... All my boats are 1960 or earlier, so I like everything to match for 'show' purposes, and that includes metal cans. I do, however, also use plastic cans for running :)

This is another source for decals- http://nymarine.ca/

He's also got paint, etc.

Just make SURE that the tanks are in good shape first, of course. It also doesn't hurt to clean and seal the insides- There are companies that sell kits to do that for cars, like Eastwood, for example. You can get ahold of a lot of the parts, too- If you keep an eye on E-Bay or have some sources that stock 'vintage' parts.

Appreciate the info guys! http://nymarine.ca/ has what I want. Kinda surprised by the prices. $90 for 3 sets for my old tanks is outta my cosmetic stuff budget for now. Maybe I'll restore them later this summer.
