Restoring old memories. My fathers long lost McKenzie Cherokee.

I was five years old when my father brought home the first boat I ever remember seeing. It was a 1958 McKenzie Cherokee. He took me out on the Ohio River and I was hooked on boating for life. The year was 1968 and for the next four years we took countless fishing trips to the lakes in Kentucky and made some of the best memories of my life. He sold the boat in 1972 and bought a bass boat. It was nice, but I'll always remember the days with the Cherokee.

In 2003 I found myself in the boat business in Florida. I also found the location of that first boat from all those years ago. I tried to purchase it to no avail. I went as high as $1000.00 and it was no sale. Having given up on it I went up to Kentucky to attend a wedding. I made one last attempt and was able to buy the boat for $250.00. I brought it back home and it's my new project.

Well since the boat has sentimental value, we'll expect an extra special resto job on this one.

Show us how pretty you can make her and make Dad smile wherever he is.

It was a busy week. I have the fortune of having a small workshop at my place of business where I can work on the boat when I get a break in the action. I cleaned out the rotten wood and took off the engine and console. I pressure washed the hull and am preparing to rework the transom

We would like to see pics of that, we love progress and boat porn!

A FREE Photobucket account makes posting pics on the internet a breeze and they come out nice and big without having to click on them.

You have to join Photobucket.

Upload your pics to Photobucket, don't worry about the size... photobucket automatically resizes them for you.

Hover your cursor over the cog icon in the upper right hand corner of the pic and a drop down menu will appear, click on "Get Links", when that menu appears click on the bottom URL link, the link will highlight itself and say "Copied". Come back to iboats and right click in your post and choose "paste" and the link will be displayed in your post. When you post your reply the picture will appear.

Boats like these with a connection to the family I always like. It will be cool to see it on the water again.
