rev counter ( tachometer help needed

hello,ive a 1978 ,3 cylinder ,65 hp blueband,ive picked up a secondhand quicksilver rev counter ( serial: 79 909430284 ).on the back theres settings for 4 cyl.6 cyl.8cyl and 12 idle alter,can this be used for a 3 cylinder ,,thanks piperdog

You might try it and find out.

Most of those motors used a 12 pole alternator setting.

hoping not to sound too thick ,but is that the answer to my question and is this tachometer suitable

Hard to say without knowing a lot more about the tach. But if its going to work it will be on the 12 setting.
