OK, I finished every thing on the engine yesterday, she runs great ,checking to make sure all is well ,at 600 rpms I wanted to make sure everything else was working good so I shifted forward ,slipped in good, went to put in reverse and she grinded a little ? would shifting to slow cause this?? she did great last season, this is the first time I ever shifted out of the water w/muffs. I didn't like the way it sounded , OH yes everything has been greased and oil in the lower unit is fresh and full. [/I][/B]

Don't know what kind of outdrive you have, but an Alpha 1 shouldn't be shifted slowly, and if you do, it will grind. A firm shift is needed with the style of clutch the outdrive uses.

Great news !! Took her out Thurs and the stern drive works perfectly, probably just sounded louder out of water, and shifted with no prob(smooth) :D
