reverse no longer workin

Hey Guys
My '99 Johnson 175 lost reverse, I've had the boat for about 3 months had it service when I got it,water pump, lower unit fluids,decarbed,pluggs,wires ect..
the throttles (twin)to me seem stiff but just figured a bigger boat longer travel more resistance.
last weekend one of the throttle linkages broke when I stuck it in reverse got the part 12 bucks no problem, installed it everything is fine but it won't go into reverse, goes forward in gear and forward and reverse in neutral but won't go in to reverse where to start?

try disconnecting the shift cable and see if you can manually shift into reverse. if so, you have a cable or linkage problem. if not, it's in the lower unit.

Spin the prop by hand whilst trying to shift into gear.

If its ok ,
make sure to install new cable by the book, theres a definate proceedure.

OK long time since I've gottn back
my port motor '99 j175 pxees Isn't going in reverse,manually while spinning the prop or will started.Time to rebuild the lower unit. First thing I got to get a manual what is the best one for me.
