The first time ever trying to use shore power our reverse polarity light came on. It is located on the breaker panel. The main as well as all the other breaker were shut off. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. I know I may need to provide additional info, just not sure what so please let me know.

Re: Reverse Polarity

1) Have you done any AC wiring on this boat?
2) Check the polarity of the shore power outlet at the dock. This would not be the first instance where the hot and neutral lines were reversed. If the reversed polarity light has never come on before I'll bet the shore power receptacle is wired wrong and you have every right to ***** at the marina.

Re: Reverse Polarity

I have not done any A/C work to the boat. I have only had the boat for a year and this is the first time I have tried using the shore power. The boat is a 2000.
How woud I check the polarity at the dock supply?

Re: Reverse Polarity

Voltmeter or a polarity testing plug available in the electrical dept at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. However, since you haven't used shore power before, the problem may very well be on your boat. Show us a picture of what your shore power connection is on the boat and what the receptacle looks like on the dock. If both of those look like standard house outlets and plugs, the the narrower of the two vertical slots is the HOT circuit. The long slot is the NEUTRAL and the single, rounded connection is the ground. So there is a reversal either on the boat or at the dock. As for wires -- the HOT circuit is black, neutral is white and ground is green. On plugs and receptacles, the hot circuit is a bronze colored screw. Neutral is the silver screw and ground is the green screw. If you have a 220 volt connection then we will need to address that separately.

Re: Reverse Polarity

It has a 220 plug on it. I will get pics later this week, but I will also get a polarity tester and test the feed. Thanx for the help.
