okay so I got my boat running pretty good the reverse and the forwards were working. I lost most of my throttle when in forward so I adjusted the shifter cable and voila have the right power now going forward unfortunately now I lost my reverse again. Does it make sense that in order to have reverse I end up having maybe only half speed going forward? This is a 1971 Mercury 65 HP
thanks

Throttle and shift cables are two separate and unrelated functions.

What control do you have? MerControl?

yes I have a mercontrol. Is there an online schematic for the motor? Sorry I am dealing with shifter issue I put it all the way forward and it only half works. And if I adjust it to fully work I lose my reverse.
thanks

Re: reverse woes are back

I went out to fix the shifter cable and noticed I had put a bolt and washer on the shifter adjuster bolt ( to keep it from dropping into motor when the cable was off) anyway I looked at it and noticed that the shifter cable wasn?t seated right so I pulled the washer and bolt out and let the cable seat properly and then adjusted the throttle cable so it idled right. Took the boat out and it ran pretty much perfect from Poonamalie to Rideau ferry and back. The only issue is that to get it to stay going full out I have to hold the shifter down but it ran great. It does use way too much gas but it will do for now I think. Oh yeah I have reverse back again :)
