been experimenting with reclaiming deepcycle batteries, had excelent results so far, brought back a 5 yearold stoway, to full charge, it had been sitting neglected for over a year, not hard to do. use edta chemical and a pulser,

It may be "fully" charged, but does it have any guts? You've load tested it, right?

if the plates have sulfated, it will have about 1/3 the life it should and considerably less power as a load tester will show.

The engine may rev to 6,000 RPMs, but it may not have enough torque to move your wheel barrow!!!

sorry to disappoint you guys, but the batteries are better than new, the deepcycle bats have heavier plates and long as you just clean them, then recharge, it will last, i didnt believe it either so i proved it to myself. of course you can continue paying 70 bucks or more for more batteries , i'll just pay bout 4 dollars and keep truckin.

battery was rated at 875 reserve amps, load tested at 900, just takes a while, not a fast operation, week or so. wash out old bat, rinse, refill with edta and distilled water, over charge as if equalizing, then wash out again , re place edta with electrolite,( acid ), equalize charge for couple days, drain charge with load to 10.5 volts, then recharge slowly, couple recharges and good asnue. try it you'll like it.

Funny, I woke up last night and started thinking about this.<br /><br />Figuring that you have to buy, dispose of all this washing out material and Buy the electrolight. Take the time to do it all, all while dealing with a potentially hazardous material.<br /><br />Then risk the posability that the battery you are tying to save will not save, or in the worst case senario ruin a camping, fishing or other activity just to save a few dollars is not in my opinion even a viable option. There is no way that I know of to test the reserve of a battery without actually putting it to the test.<br /><br />No thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the chemical is used in soap, and in treating metals poisioning, yes to treat it. its not poisionous, cost a dollar a battery, and the batteries are free, i like the idea of recycling and not just piling all the dead batteries out side the shed, besides i have free time while the ice is on. to each his own.

Just be careful when using the electrolyte. It's 93% sulfuric acid and will burn the hell out of you if it gets on your skin and/or clothing. <br /><br />Best to use rubber gloves and goggles, at the least, when handling it. Flush the area immediately with water for at least 15 minutes if you get it on you.<br /><br />It's not the most dangerous acid out there but still will burn and scar if one is not careful.
