I’m wanting to rev mine because I’m having trouble with it and it’s 30 minutes to the nearest lake to put it in and see if I fixed my problem. Dang thing starts in forward and does when I try to shift it. I think when I had the lower unit off to replace the water inlet tube I didn’t get something back right because it hasn’t made it off the trailer since.

Welcome aboard:

Let's not resurrect older topics unless they're yours, please.

What do you have? Drive, engine, vintage, etc.

You can run the engine up some without load, but I wouldn't run it up too high.

After I replaced the water inlet tube in the lower unit, when the boat fires off it’s in gear, it dies when I try to put it in reverse and the shift cable bows like a son. I was going to try and fix it and hook it up to the hose and run it forward and back to make sure it responds right before another wasted trip to the lake and fishing from the dock

You don't need to rev the engine to check if it's shifting properly. A properly ajusted shift system on a Cobra can be shifted into & out of gear with 2 fingers. You need to go thru the entire Cobra shift system adjustment procedure before you grenade the gearing in your Cobra. I wouldn't even think of taking it anywhere until you get this straightened out not to mention the fact that a boat that starts in gear is a disaster waiting to happen.

You can shift it in and out of gear and run the RPMs up a little.
