Hi Old Salt,<br /> There's only about 8 parts in the whole recoil. First thing I'd look at is the spring - make sure the ends are attached to the housing and center spool. If you're not getting any retraction at all, it's possible one of these ends has broken and is no longer engaging. Be VERY careful when working around the coiled spring - safety goggles are a good idea.<br /> I like to preload the spring with about 2 turns before I bring the cord through the front of the motor - gives it enough tension to fully retract without putting too much twist to the spring. <br /> Should be lubricated with a light grease. Sometimes the old grease gets dried out and stiff - can be loosened up with light oil, WD-40, CRC, etc.<br />- Scott
