rewire 1990 ProLine CC

I have a 1990 19'ProLine center console that I bought used last year. It's in good shape except for the wiring. The boat was "professionally" mantained and satyed on a mooring for most of it's life. The general conditon of the wiring I'd say is poor, brittle wire, corroded connections and the like, not to mention that there is this bird's nest of wires back in the battery compartment. The short of it is , am I crazy to attempt to rewire the boat, ie lights, horn & accessories. The wiring harness to the engine is what it is, an looks ok. If I do decide to do the job myself , is there any good books that aren't for electrical engineers that could help? thanks Seb

If you aren't comfortable with grounding, switches, fuses, circuit breakers, and wiring in general, and especially if everything currently works, you are probably best off leaving it alone. Consider just organizing the existing wiring. Wiring in a 90's boat should not be a problem unless its been exposed to the sun its entire life. If you want to spend time learning basic electricity and can handle a crimping tool and soldering iron go for it. Just remember that unless you plan this out and create a wiring diagram, you could end up with a worse situation and have a potentially more dangerous situation than the system you currently have.
