i have a 1969 Johnson 9.5

After reading some of the threads here and deciding to take a look at my front motor mount, I inadvertently screwed up the R/F adjuster.. what I mean is, I didn't note the location when I pulled it apart, so now the knob is off because I don't want to reattach it until I know I have the R/F screw adjusted properly..

So, that brings me to my question.. what is the procedure for adjusting this screw? a certain amount of turns perhaps? Right now I have it turned out 2 full rotations from seat, and it runs great, but since the knob, when installed, only turns just shy of 360 degrees, there must be a way to set it up.

This is the screw that is attached to a sort of cable, and the know is fairly large on the front of the engine, and reads R on the left, L on the right.

You probably have it set close. With the engine warm at idle in gear you can turn it clockwise (L) about an 1/8th turn at a time until the engine starts to sneeze. Once it sneezes turn it back counterclockwise about a 1.8 to 1/4 turn and see if that works good at that setting. If it does put the knob back on with the indicator pointing straight down. From there you should not need to adjust it anymore. Best of luck. Rick.
