They told me it was pretty much plug and play. They all said it and I suppose maybe it is to folks with more brain cells than I've got but derned if I don't make things more confluted than they need be.

So, taking baby steps, since I already figured out the shift and throttle cables I'll move on to the battery hookup. See picture.
#1 is the red wire that goes to the battery
#2 is the black battery wire.

*Note - the red and black wires are not attched to anything yet, just hanging there waiting to find a nice spot.

#3 is where I'm pretty darn sure the red wire gets attached, maybe.
But here they got me.
Where is a body to put the black wire?
The ? is a threaded hole that looks like it would be a nice spot but then again may be that's not right.

Can someone tell me the correct hookup for the battery cable to a new Yamaha F70LA?

dealer you bought it from should mount and do a complete check out of the motor filling out the paper work so your warranty is active. without the proper paper work you have no warranty

The service manual is pretty darn clear as to where the cables go and how the wires are restrained. You are following the service manual I hope. Correct?

Wow, thanks for the heads up. Called the dealer and he told me my warranty info has already been filled out by them and that I should receive the registration in the mail soon.

Now here's something I don't think I need the manual for. My previous system was also a Yamaha and I was told both systems should be 10 pin and plug right up. The picture sure looks like they should yet the new plug will not slide into the old socket. It goes together all but the last 3/16 and it appears to be the pins stopping it and not any of the surrounding plastic parts.

Anyone run into this?

does this mean they are falsifying the check out paper work they have to send in?

So, I got it. After trying everything non-invasive including lots of dielectric silicone shmutz and pushing real hard without success, I decided to mess with the old 10 pin harness on the boat side. Using the tip of a needlenose I gently spread each female pin and tried again and got it all the way in save for 1/16 of an inch. To get it all the way in so the locking clip would slide on I finished with a channel lock working my way around the plug with one jaw on the male end and the other on the female end.

The important thing for me is I didn't wreck anything. All I need now is to fill oil and borrow a test prop.

Added 2.22 quarts of genuine Yamalube 4M FC-W oil. Steering is rigged.

Need to figure what setting I need for my existing tach...

Not sure this is going to work, I didn't see a reference to the number of alternator poles in the manual

Or, Or, according to the O/B wiring guide I found online the setting for my old 90HP 2 stroke Yamaha is the same as the new 4 stroke Yamaha. I wonder....
